About the Film
From intense rehearsals to tearful goodbyes, Becoming Unlimited documents the creation of a multi-ability dance production. Behind the scenes, the team confronts difficult realizations; after the production, participants talk about its impact. As we witness both the struggles and the exhilaration, viewers are challenged to question perceptions of artistry, ability, and integration.

Director Statement
Why this film?
After many years working with local disability networks in multi-ability dance and theatre, I decided to bring inclusion to the Drama Department at the University of Lethbridge.
Twenty-two students, eight with identified disabilities, undertook a year-long dance journey with me and Pamela Boyd, Artistic Director of MOMO (a multi-ability dance company). Together we created Unlimited, an integrated dance theatre production. A big web of partners helped us out- disability support organizations, families, students and university activists. A national Art for Social Change research group provided funding to research what happened.
It was a blast.
But beyond the applause, we could see that the work had an impact on the university, on our community, on the performers. The show seemed to affect outsiders' perceptions, and insiders' lived experiences of disability. We couldn't just let the all our creative discoveries get buried in academic articles and fading memories.
We want universities and other performing arts organizations to include more disabled students in their training programs. We hope more disabled people will become artists.
We wonder, could news of our work make an impact on community inclusion beyond our small city?
So we made Becoming Unlimited. Enjoy the film!
